SEO in Hamilton, from a business founded here
Most Hamilton businesses are invisible for the searches that matter. Not because their website is ugly, but because it was never built to be found. We fix the reasons on your site, and we report in enquiries rather than rankings.
What we do for Hamilton businesses
Every engagement starts with a free engagement report: what is stopping enquiries, the phrases worth chasing and who already owns them, and a realistic timing band. It is yours to keep whether or not you go further.
If you come on board, we make the changes ourselves: page titles, site structure, town and service pages, your Google Business Profile, and the structured data that tells Google and AI assistants what your business actually is. AI helps us draft; a person reviews; nothing goes live without your say-so.
Why Hamilton businesses get passed over
When someone in Hamilton searches for what you sell, the results are dominated by whoever built the clearest page, not whoever does the best work. Often that is a directory, or a firm from further afield with a page Google can match to the place someone typed. That is fixable, and it is mostly technical.
Google and AI answers, not one or the other
A growing share of searches now end in an answer rather than a list of links. Google, ChatGPT and Claude all read the same thing: your website. We work on the site so every one of them can use it.
What “SEO” means for a Hamilton business now
Three layers, and most businesses only have one of them working.
- Your Google Business Profile. The Maps listing is the first result for most “near me” and “Hamilton” searches. Hours, categories, services, photos and reviews decide whether people call you or the next one down. It is also the layer most often left to drift.
- Pages for what you do and where you do it. Google matches a search to a page, not to a business. If you serve Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Morrinsville but your site only mentions Hamilton, you are invisible in those towns. If you offer six services and have one “Services” page, you compete for none of them.
- The answer layer. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Claude read your site and summarise it. Pages that state plainly what you do, for whom and where get used; pages that only say “contact us for a quote” do not.
The engagement report tells you which of the three is costing you the most enquiries, so the first effort goes where it moves the number.
What the first 90 days usually look like
Every business is different, but the sequence is fairly stable because the cheapest fixes come first.
- Weeks 1–2: report and hygiene. Free engagement report, then the fixes that need no new content: Google Business Profile corrected, page titles rewritten, indexing problems cleared, Search Console connected so there is a baseline to measure from.
- Weeks 3–6: structure. Service pages split out so each one can be found on its own, structured data added so Google and assistants know what the business is, internal links tidied so the important pages are reachable.
- Weeks 7–12: places and proof. Town pages for the areas you work in, written with the local detail only you have; reviews asked for within Google’s rules; photos of real jobs. This is where new impressions start arriving in Search Console.
- Ongoing: measure and adjust. Each month you see enquiries, calls and direction requests alongside impressions and clicks, and we agree the next small batch of work. You approve every change before it goes live.
What we measure, and what we do not
We report enquiries: calls from the profile, direction requests, form submissions and emails that can be traced to search. Impressions and clicks from Search Console sit alongside them so you can see the pipeline filling. We do not report a keyword position as if it were a result. A position on Google that produces no enquiry is not worth paying for, and positions move daily for reasons nobody controls.
Who this is for
Service businesses and retailers in Hamilton and the Waikato whose customers search before they buy: trades, clinics and practices, professional services, hospitality, and local shops with an online store. It is a poor fit if you need results in a fortnight for a launch (that is an ads job, and we will say so), or if you want someone to guarantee a page-one position. The free report is the filter: if we do not think search will move your enquiries, it will say that, and it costs you nothing.
How it works and what it costs
- Free engagement report first. Send your website address; Emma replies within one NZ business day.
- DIY or done for you. Take the checklist to your own developer, or have us implement it with your approval.
- Month to month. No lock-in contract. Stop whenever you like.

Common questions
How long before I see anything?
Hygiene fixes such as your Google Business Profile, page titles and indexing problems can show movement within weeks. New service and town pages usually take one to three months to start earning impressions. Tougher competitive phrases take longer, and nobody honest can give you a fixed date.
Do I need a new website?
Usually not. Most Hamilton sites we look at need clearer pages and better structure, not a rebuild. If a rebuild really is the cheaper path, the report will say so.
What do you need from me?
Your website address to start. If you go ahead, access to the site and your Google Business Profile, plus the local detail only you know: the towns you work in, recent jobs and photos.
Can you guarantee a position on Google?
No, and be wary of anyone who does. You get a realistic timing band for the phrases we agree on, you see the work and the numbers every month, and you can stop whenever you like.
